Dog Beds Any Dog Will Love

Dog Beds Any Dog Will Love

There are so many choices out there for dogs nowadays. How do you choose the best one for your dog?

Beds should be large enough for the dog to stretch out on if they sleep extended. If they curl up to sleep, something with cozy walls may be a better choice.

As our dogs age, their joints may become stiffer and some dogs will run cold. A good comfy supportive bed and a warm blanket will be appreciated by your older dog. It should also be thick enough that it doesn’t compress into a pancake.

What do you do when your dog shreds their bed? There are some tough beds available that are designed for chewy destructive dogs.

Here are some top choices that your dog is sure to love.

Memory foam dog beds are supportive and comfortable for dogs that are starting to get stiff. A removable washable cover makes keeping it clean easy.

Blankets should be warm and washable as well. Many dogs are happy to burrow under their blanket in their cushy dog bed placed near their owner. If your dog prefers to snooze away from the hustle and bustle of the family, offer them a cozy spot in a quiet corner.

Puppies start life with their mama and littermates. So they really hate to sleep alone at first when they are old enough to be removed from their mothers. They also tend to destroy and chew their bedding. So, spending hundreds of dollars on a bed for a puppy is probably not a smart financial move. Cozy old blankets are what most people use at least until the puppy learns to not eat their bed.

If your puppy is past the stage of eating everything in sight, a plush cozy donut-style bed is calming because it feels more like sleeping with their mom and siblings because the side walls hug them. These can be found in most pet stores or Amazon. Anything you buy a puppy is likely to be destroyed so don’t spend a lot on the dog bed at this point.

Dogs That Chew Everything To Bits

Orvis ToughChew® ComfortFill-Eco™ Platform Dog Bed $139 — $229 depending on size.

From The Orvis Website:

The Orvis ToughChew Comfortfill-Eco Platform Dog Bed is our version of tough love for the chewer: Our ultimate chew-resistant fabric features a full ripstop nylon base with a bonded micro-velvet top layer, designed to guarantee both superior puncture and tear resistance and an extremely soft feel. A sturdy nylon liner adds the final layer of protection. No cording along the seams eliminates chew targets. Even the zipper is tough, constructed of solid brass for long-lasting strength. The go-anywhere Platform silhouette is ideal for dogs who like to stretch out on their side, belly, or back; and our plush and springy ComfortFill-Eco cushion refuses to flatten or clump, no matter how much your dog moves around to get comfortable. We introduced our ToughChew beds in 1998. After years of testing, designing, and re-designing, we updated our ToughChew covers in 2018 (our 4th significant evolution of the fabric!). They are now softer than ever, offer an extra layer of protection, and are still backed by our ToughChew guarantee: If your dog chews through this bed, we’ll refund your money. No questions asked. Dogs That Like to Burrow

Some dogs love to crawl under a blanket to take a really cozy nap. My little chihuahua, Eddie, is guilty of this. He has even crawled into a folded blanket and snuggled himself into a little burrito when he is feeling cold.

Did you know that they make beds that are like cozy little caves for dogs? Here is my favorite.

Dogs That Sleep in Crates

Love them or hate them, crates can come in very handy for many dogs. If your dog is crate-trained or you want to crate train your dog, bedding can be tricky.

If your dog is still at the stage where they are going to destroy the bedding in the crate, a small area rug the size of the crate is a good choice. Dogs are less likely to chew a rug than soft squishy bedding.

I put a memory foam crate mat in my dog’s bed when I was first training Betty, my border collie dog, and she ate it while I was at work. I learned about the rug mat from a client that had used it when I was pet sitting. I tried the area rug instead and it worked for Betty too.

If your dog is past the stage where everything in the crate gets destroyed, a nice memory foam mat covered in fleece can be a welcome addition for dogs that want to be cozy and warm. This won’t work for dogs that sleep hot though. My Betty is always hot. She seeks out tile and hardwood floors to sleep. Anything in her crate that is cozy and warm gets pushed out the door when the door is open. It is important to know your dog’s sleep preferences.

Senior dogs

With a senior dog, taking into account the way your dog prefers to sleep is still important. Joint pain and arthritis become more prevalent with age. Supportive dog beds are greatly appreciated by stiff, achy older dogs. Many of the beds listed above will work for your senior dog depending on their sleep style. The bed suggested for dogs with joint pain is an excellent choice for senior dogs. For small dogs that run cold and like to sleep undisturbed, the cozy snuggle bed with the attached blanket is a great choice.
